Ski the best of the Three Valleys

Perfectly groomed pistes in the Trois Vallees

With 600km of skiing, the uninitiated could easily miss the best of the Three Valleys. Which, in our opinion, would include...

CHAPELETS RED RUN, MORIOND

It's the most Eastern run in the Three Valleys and on the very edge of the Park National de la Vanoise, meaning that it's calm and rather pretty. Above all, it's a wide red, but it also has some interesting twists, some soft bumps in the afternoon, and a rolling section near the end. You can also swing off to the right and enjoy the tracks through the trees if you're an off pister, coming out onto a wide meadow from which you can ski back to the lift.

THE ROC MERLET DERBY

A good long route from top to bottom of 1650, the pistes covered (Roc Merlet, Pyramides, Ariondaz) link up to make the Roc Merlet Derby race, a bunfight of a race which takes place in March. The best racers manage around 4minutes, but if speed's not your thing then put in some huge carving turns and enjoy the views!

TAKE IN THE VIEWS AT 2,952m FROM MONT VALLON

Then ski down without stopping! A real thigh burner this, but it'll get the competitive people in your group really going! There's a new webcam up here too, so you can check conditions beforehard. A little tip - don't overshoot the chairlifts or you'll be stuck on a rather flat blue which you'll have to pole down.

'AND DID THOSE FEET, IN ANCIENT TIME...'

Jerusalem is one piste you certainly shouldn't miss on your Three Valley pass. It's a wide, gentle red with undulating rollers you can get a bit of lift on if you're going at speed. It's a glorious run and we'd be surprised if you don't take the chairlift straight back up for a repeat performance. Having said that - neighbouring Pramint is overlooked but equally heavenly.

GLACIER SKIING

Glacier de Peclet, Val Thorens It's not pretty, poor old Val Thorens. But its redeeming feature is its altitude and great snow. Plan to spend at least an hour cruising around the pistes on the Glacier Peclet and you won't be disappointed. Just make sure you leave plenty of time to get back into the Courchevel Valley, especially at peak times.

FINALLY: FOLYERES

Last but definitely not least, La Tania's very own Folyères is a magical mystery tour: a long and winding blue through a forest that emits an enchanting pine scent as you cruise down on a warm day. It's long enough and fast enough to please the experts, yet as a blue it's not overly steep, and has the width to happily accommodate all levels of skier. Plus, at the end of the run, you're back in La Tania for a much-deserved après drink!
