Courchevel's New Aquamotion Centre

Aquamotion, Courchevel

After several years of anticipation, Courchevel finally opened the doors to the fancy new swimming centre Aquamotion which is located between Courchevel Village and Courchevel Moriond (1550 and 1650 in old terms!) Our La Tania guests can access the pool using the free ‘navette’ bus – ask your chalet host for a bus timetable.

What’s inside?

Main Area
If you’re visiting with children then you’ll be heading straight to the ‘Espace Aqualudique’ which is a huge area with lots of places to explore. There’s a colourful children’s area with squirty flowers and a fun slide for the littlest swimmers.

Proper swimmers have a 25m lane pool, which is at a cool temperature so you have to keep going! There are exercise classes run in this part of the pool, such as aqua bike & aqua boxing.

For lounging around, there’s a main pool which is lovely and warm and at a standard depth throughout, with bubbly bits at one end and shoulder/neck massage showers. The heated exterior pool is separate to this – you enter on the inside then swim through to the outside which has several fun areas such as relaxing bubbly lounger spots, power massage showers and a swooshy lazy river. This outside area is lovely even when the snow is falling gently around you, just dunk your head every so often to warm up!

Inside this area is also a large red luge (hold your nose as you come into the main pool!) which anyone over 1m20 can use. There’s a ‘pentagliss’ slide which is fast and furious – anyone over 5 can use this slide. There’s also a diving pool which has a small jump and a much higher one. Anyone who dares is allowed to jump, children included!

Adults Only
For grown-ups (over 18) there is a separate ‘Espace Wellness’ with a darkened salt cave with chromotherapy lights and a projector (yes, really!) You can float around and watch the atmospheric films.

There’s a main pool which is both interior and exterior, with bubbly bits and water jets. The sauna and steam room are in this area, with a plunge pool to cool down after your heat treatment.

Indoor SurfingThis area is specifically designed for fun! Water jets allow activities such as wakeboarding, wake surf, wake skate and bodyboarding.

Spa Treatments
As you’d expect, there are all manner of relaxing options on offer in the Balneo & Spa area – facials, massage and waxing - as well as aqua treatments such as ‘hydrojet’ massage, seaweed wrap, hot and cold water baths and very fine ‘rain’ treatments. Prices start at 28€, or you can choose from day passes which start at 143€ and include various options from the treatment menu.

Top tips
1) You don’t need cash for the locker – they work by pin code.
2) You can take a towel in.
3) Swim shorts for gents are OK! Also no swim hat is required.

Prices start from:
Aqualudique: 3 hours 22€ adult, 12€ children 3-12
Aquawellness: 3 hours 34€ (also includes entry to Aqualudique)
Indoor Surf: Beginners 25€

If you’re thinking of going more than once, then there are 18 hour passes available.

Skiing in a winter wonderland...

That's right, it's on it's way... A big storm has already started hitting our part of the Alps! The yellowy orange patches on the above map from Meteo Blue mean that between 50-100 centimetres of snow are due to fall overnight (20th November 2015), with continuing snowfall and cold temperatures over the next 5 days.

This should mean that the snow that falls in the coming days will pack down nicely and build up the base for a good season.

Let us guess, your next question is: "Can we come out and play?"
The answer is YES!

Although we're fully booked for the first week, we have Christmas & New Year spaces available in Chalet Jamais Bleu. With January and February also fully booked, if you'd like to take advantage of hot tubs, gourmet food and amazing Three Valleys skiing, then don't hesitate to...

Activites for non skiers in Courchevel and La Tania

La Tania’s pedestrian-friendly village is a lovely place for non skiers to holiday.

Whether you’re a grandparent, travelling with young children or simply prefer a slower pace to your holiday then there are plenty of options to keep you entertained away from the slopes...Pedestrian passesPop into the lift pass office and ask for a ‘forfait pieton.’ This will open up the lift system and give you plenty of opportunity to explore and meet up with the skiers in your group. You can purchase a pass for one day or for a whole week. Alternatively you can buy single trip rides (which include the downwards journey as well!)BusesThe free navette will take you to all the different stations of Courchevel and it's a great way to get around. Do plan your return journey times in advance so that you don’t get caught out.
Where to go

La Tania
– travel up the La Tania bubble lift and have a wander around and enjoy a drink or lunch in the Bouc Blanc. It’s especially lovely on a sunny day on the terrace. There’s a new snack bar outside which is excellent value but the restaurant lunches are pretty reasonable and despite the 400 places on the terrace, the service is always welcoming.

1850 – take the bus to Le Praz from La Tania and from the bus stop you’ll see the bubble lift that takes you to 1850. Once you’re there it’s a short walk to the main centre and there you’ll find the razzle dazzle of designer shops, expensive restaurants and fur-clad fashionistas which is all jolly good fun for people-watching. With your pedestrian pass you can travel on the 3 bubble lifts – Jardin Alpin, Chenus and Verdons – from the snow front (as you disembark the bus, turn right and enter the Croisette building and up the steps. If you take Verdons you’ll be half way to the very top! You can then get on the huge cable car Saulire and be on top of the world in a few minutes. To return to La Tania you can take the bubble inside the Croisette down to 1550

Moriond – the village is nice for a little wander and shop, then you can head up the Ariondaz bubble to the Bel Air restaurant which has a lovely terrace with deckchairs on the lowest or tables on the higher levels. They’re usually very accommodating to people requesting coffees before the lunch reservations arrive and they also do a good vin chaud! It’s definitely worth reserving for lunch if you’d like to sit outside.
Off the beaten track Take a look behind the scenes of the ski resort and backstage, you’ll find a myriad of walking paths, criss-crossed with the frolicking footprints of deer, rabbits and foxes, and dappled with the light and shade of the tall pines. You can be independent and grab a walking map from the tourist office and hire snow shoes from a rental shop, or you could book an outing with the knowledgeable Pip who will organise everything for you and take you on a real adventure. www.pipofthealps.com

Taking it easy
Our outdoor hot tub is the first port of call for anyone requiring some bubbly relaxation, but if you want to get a little more active, then the fitness club in the Hotel Montana in the village centre has a swimming pool, sauna and gym. For a taste of real luxe you could also make your way up to the Chabichou spa which has a huge pool and everything for watery indulgence you could think of, including rainforest sounds to accompany your chromotherapy shower.

Adventures in WonderlandFor those who like to indulge in a little adrenalin boosting activity every now and again, then there are a number of options from husky sledding to skidooing, or even skydiving or a pleasure flight in a tiny plane from the altiport in 1850. We’d also recommend a tandem parapente for a gentle initiation into taking to the air. It’s peaceful and the views are incroyable!
Email Sallyann to enquire about any of these activities which require booking. You can also ask your chalet host for more information and recommendations.

Three Valleys picnic spots

With the Alpine rays shining on half term skiers, here are our favourite places to sit and soak up the sun (wearing factor 50 of course):
Al fresco picnic spots:
  1. Top of Signal or Chapelets chairs, Courchevel Moriond - quiet peaceful spots with nice views of the Breche de la Portetta (the jagged and curved rocks in the Vanoise National Park area) Apparently the remains of a WW2 aircraft can be seen the other side!
  2. Top of La Saulire, Courchevel 1850 - you feel like you're on top of the world with these breath-taking views. Don't forget a camera!
  3. Top of Creux Noir chair - the barrier and signs mean that the area isn't blasted for avalanches to make it safe to ski, but if you head back down the red/black pistes after your scenic picnic you'll be safe as houses and the views of Meribel and beyond are stunning.
Snack bars:
  1. Le Bouc Blanc. The new snack area on the side of this friendly restaurant at the top of La Tania's bubble lift is definitely worth a stop.
  2. Le Bel Air, at the top of Ariondaz bubble in Moriond, serves soup, hot dogs and sarnies at a reasonable price.
  3. Le Courchneige on Bellecote in 1850 is a nice place to sit and it's easily accessible for beginners. The main restaurant also does a reasonably priced buffet lunch.

Snow Report January 2015

If you do - get in touch! info@chic-chalet.com

January 31st 2015 Snow Report

The skies cleared on Saturday morning to reveal our magnificent mountains cloaked in a deep white blanket of pristine white snow. Stunning - and chilly - enough to take your breath away.

The skiing was glorious, with acres of beautiful powder to enjoy. That's the great thing about the Three Valleys, there's just so much skiing that it doesn't get crowded! There was no need to stray away from the pistes for those catching the first lifts, as the runs that had been groomed overnight were covered again in fluffy, white powder.

In the afternoon, the clouds gradually crept back across the azure sky, bringing with them another 20 odd centimetres of snow over the following two days. And with regular snow due this first week of February to freshen the place up, this week's guests are in for a treat.

And what better way to warm up after skiing than a dip in the hot tub in the comfort of your own chalet?!
